Tak Oi Secondary School to Be Undertaken by
Another Catholic Education Institution
to Continue Professional Quality Education
|
The Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception (M.I.C.), the sponsoring body of Tak Oi Secondary School (Tak Oi), today announces that, due to shortage of personnel in education the School Management Committee, after careful consideration and a long search for appropriate sponsoring bodies, intends to transfer the sponsorship of the school to the East Asian Educational Association (EAEA). The application for transfer will be submitted to the Education Bureau and it is anticipated that the whole procedure will take at least one to two years. The EAEA has committed to preserving the Catholic values, school motto, mission and goals together with equally high-quality education after the take-over. Tak Oi will remain an EMI (English as Medium of Instruction) School. All teaching and administrative staff will also remain unchanged to ensure that the daily operation of the school will be carried out as usual.
Since it was founded in Tsz Wan Shan by the M.I.C., Tak Oi Secondary School has now become a well-esteemed and reputable girls' school in the district. However, in view of responding to the increasing demand for moral and spiritual formation of youth from the society and the shortage of personnel in education, the M.I.C. had to look for a professional educational body to take over the sponsorship of Tak Oi. The EAEA, also a Catholic institution, is the perfect option to offer the students a holistic education inspired by Catholic values and principles. Today, all teaching and non-teaching staff members, students and parents are notified of the above plan by the School Management Committee, who will submit the official application to the Education Bureau in due course.
In fact, it is not the first time that the EAEA will take over a school from the hands of the M.I.C. As early as 1993, the EAEA successfully undertook the sponsorship of Tak Sun School at Austin Road, Tsimshatsui (including kindergarten and primary school sections). Under the new school management committee, the school has been growing substantially and Tak Sun Secondary School was established in 2000. The comprehensive management of the school has convinced the M.I.C. that Tak Oi will surely enjoy a promising future under EAEA. To ensure a smooth transitional period, a Sister from the M.I.C. will sit in the School Management Committee for the first year after the takeover. Sr. Rossetti Lau, M.I.C., School Supervisor, says, “We shall continue to be concerned with the development of Tak Oi even after EAEA takes over the school, and will be glad to provide the new Committee with all necessary assistance.”
Dr. Stella Li of the EAEA states, “The EAEA is a Catholic institution specialised in school management. With extensive and professional school management experience in Hong Kong and overseas, we will strive to continue with the high-quality education provided by the M.I.C. over the past 40 years. Tak Oi will remain a Catholic girls’ secondary school with an aim to promote the moral, intellectual, physical, social, aesthetic and spiritual development of the students to the fullest.”
